Carsen Perry Legacy Scholarship
Project Overview:
The Carsen Perry Legacy Scholarship is dedicated to empowering young bucking bull owners by providing financial support, resources, and mentorship. This initiative honors Carsen Perry’s passion and ensures his legacy continues to inspire the next generation.
Importance to the Local Community:
Bucking bulls are not just a sport—they’re a way of life in our “bull family”. Many young individuals dream of owning and raising their own bucking bulls but lack the financial means or mentorship to get started. This scholarship bridges that gap, giving local youth the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop responsibility, and build a future in the industry.
Impact on the Community at Large:
In the short term, scholarship recipients receive funding, guidance, and a pathway to success in the bucking bull industry. In the long term, this program strengthens the industry by cultivating knowledgeable, passionate leaders who will continue “to live like Carsen”—supporting fellow breeders, growing the sport, caring for and understating the bulls and keeping the tradition alive for generations to come.
Addressing Local Needs:
Our rural community thrives on agricultural and livestock-related industries, yet young enthusiasts often struggle to gain the resources needed to get started. By providing scholarships and mentorship, we ensure that the future of bucking bulls remains strong while supporting the dreams of young individuals who may otherwise lack access to financial support and industry knowledge.
Progress & Key Dates:
In 2024, we raised over $110,000, awarding multiple scholarships and grants to young bucking bull owners:
-
First-place winners (one boy, one girl): $25,000 each
-
Second-place winners: $15,000 each
-
Third-place winners: $10,000 each
-
Fourth-place winners: $5,000 each
Throughout the year, we also awarded additional prizes to recognize and support participants.
To qualify, each participant must submit an annual record book documenting how they personally manage their livestock and compete, along with an essay answering:
-
“How do you carry the spirit of Carsen Perry?”
-
“What will you do to improve the industry?”
They then must present in front of a 5-panel board of bucking bull peers.
So far, we’ve funded hands-on learning experiences, competitions, and educational initiatives to further industry knowledge.
In 2025,
we aim to expand the program, increase funding, and reach even more aspiring bull owners. We’ve acquired a lightly used trailer for our top hand and remain committed to awarding the same—if not more—scholarships to empower the next generation of bucking bull owners.
The full scholarship cycle for this grant year will be awarded at the ABBI world finals in Las Vegas Nevada in October, 2025.
